Intent
Our curriculum has been collaboratively designed to enable pupils to develop basic knowledge and skills in every subject which can then be developed throughout their time at Bentley West to a greater depth of understanding.
Our curriculum has been collaboratively designed to enable pupils to develop basic knowledge and skills in every subject which can then be developed throughout their time at Bentley West to a greater depth of understanding.
Skills and knowledge are taught and then repeated systematically in all subjects through a wide variety of thematic topics. We intend to provide a balance of experiences (episodic learning), storage of factual knowledge (semantic learning) and application of knowledge and skills (procedural learning). Objectives are mapped out through each key stage so that teachers are able to expose previous and future learning links to what is being taught within specific lessons. This enables pupils to eventually transfer their understanding from working memory into long term memory over time through building strong schemas across the curriculum.

For every topic, we have clear intent sheets which map out the knowledge, skills and understanding that pupils must gain and be able to apply to new learning. To view our intent sheets, please click on the link below...
